Thank you, Commissioners!

This is what compassionate and courageous leadership looks like! We are very proud of our Chatham County Commissioners for unanimously approving a bilingual resolution asking the federal authorities to grant Yosselin Herrera’s petition for asylum in the US.

Beyond the crucial and wonderful support for Yosselin, it is a message to all of our community that Chatham Commissioners value and respect us, and are willing to take risks to protect us.

Thank you, Commissioners! Please read the resolution below and send them your thanks and praises.

Find out more about upcoming events in support of Yosselin here.

Stand with us!

We need your help to raise $20,000 for The Hispanic Liaison. We are busy helping our community and have big plans for the future! We’re counting on you to help make The Liaison strong again. Mil gracias!

Friends, we have bad news

The Town of Siler City didn’t approve our $6,000 request to help us reopen El Vínculo. The Town Manager, Bryan Thompson (bthompson@silercity.org or 919-742-2323), explained that the town did not have funds for this purpose this year. We are disappointed with the commissioners’ decision, but are very grateful to all of you who came to the commissioners’ meeting, sent emails or called the town on our behalf. We’ll keep working hard to secure more resources. Please help us! Make a donation to El Vínculo at https://www.evhnc.org/donate/.

A huge thanks to our volunteers

A huge thanks to our volunteers who helped with the community outreach to fill out surveys with Hispanic community members. This small group completed 33 surveys in Siler City and Pittsboro! We exceeded our goal by completing 123 surveys for our community assessment. And many thanks to all the local agencies who helped us with the surveys.

If you didn’t have the chance to share your opinion, there’s still time! We’re hosting a community focus group next Saturday, June 11. For more information, visit Consulta Popular or on Facebook Events – Consulta Popular.

Community Assessment

This Saturday afternoon, we’ll be visiting several neighborhoods in Siler City and Pittsboro. Our volunteers will ask your help to fill out an anonymous survey about the future of El Vínculo. Your opinion is very important to us! If you wish to help, come by our office at 1pm tomorrow or leave a message at 919-742-1448

The surveys are part of a community assessment to inform us about the current challenges facing the Hispanic community. This information will help us determine what programs EVH will offer in the near future.

Thank you for your participation!
