Orgullo Latinx Pride Seniors are in college!

Congratulations to the 8 high school seniors in our Orgullo Latinx Pride Youth Program for pursuing their dream of a higher education. We’re so proud of you!

From left to right, top to bottom:

  1. Carlos Santiago Hernandez is attending UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Business.
  2. Angela Herrera-Morales is attending UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Business and Education.
  3. Evelin Muñoz-Tebalan is attending UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Public Policy with minors in Journalism and Business.
  4. Berenice Diaz-Acosta is attending NC State’s College of Arts & Design, majoring in Arts & Design and Animation.
  5. Jose Fonseca Castillo is attending CCCC to pursue a career in Welding.
  6. Jocelyn Lopez Mejia is attending UNC- Greensboro, majoring in Nursing.
  7. Ashley Perez is attending Elon University, majoring in Mathematics.
  8. Ervin Martinez-Tavera is attending UNC-Charlotte, majoring in Meteorology.

Seven of our seniors were accepted into six or more universities, and 6 were offered institutional scholarships totaling over $240,000!

Angela received 4 scholarships from the Triangle Community Foundation totaling $13,000 from the William Wall Family Scholarship, Jay Spence Memorial Scholarship, Luella Thomas Family Scholarship, and Eunice Riggins Memorial Scholarship. She also received $1,500 from the NC Society of Hispanic Professionals and $1,500 from the Burger King Foundation.

Evelin received the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship for $55,000/year for 4 years.

Berenice was awarded the Pack Promise from NC State that covers her full tuition! She also received the Hispanic Heritage Youth Bronze Award for Community Service for $2,000, and $1,500 from the NC Society of Hispanic Professionals.

Jose is being helped by a private sponsor who’s is covering his full tuition.

Ervin received $2,000 from the NC Society of Hispanic Professionals.

Ashley received the Odyssey Scholarship from Elon, which covers her full tuition.

Orgullo Latinx Pride Youth Program is empowering 75 Latinx high school students in Chatham County to excel in school, pursue a higher education, and give back to the community. The program is offered at Jordan Matthews in Siler City and Seaforth in Pittsboro. Last year, our youth group members contributed 1,255 hours of service in the community!
